I am a Fine Art graduate (Michaelis school of Fine Art) and photographic practitioner, living and working in Cape Town, South Africa.
My work is often centred around colonial thought and archives; specifically, how its praxis could affect familial histories and identity-making in post-apartheid South Africa. Often, I find myself working with opposing ideas, for example, absence vs presence, fiction vs truth and aural vs written archives. By working with conflicting ideas, I try to not only create tension within the work but to create uncertainty in the viewer and to help unveil endless possibilities to them.
Storytelling is an important tool for me to disseminate critical thinking, particularly in relation to topics of race and identity. Post-apartheid identities are of particular interest to me as the stories I tell, often help me make sense of my own political positioning in present-day South Africa.
